Opening a RAR or 7z archive
An archive is a container holding several files — often a manual split into sections plus its diagrams. Extract it first, then open the documents inside.
What to use
Windows
7-Zip — free, opens both RAR and 7z. Right-click the file and choose Extract Here.
macOS
The Unarchiver, free from the App Store. macOS handles ZIP on its own but not RAR or 7z.
Android
Most file manager apps extract archives. Extract to internal storage, then open the PDFs.
iPhone / iPad
The Files app opens ZIP; for RAR or 7z use a free archive app, or extract on a computer first.
Common problems
- "Unexpected end of archive". The download did not finish. Download again on a stable connection.
- Files named .part1 / .z01. A multi-part archive — keep every part in the same folder and extract the first one; it pulls in the rest.
- You only see one file after extracting. Some archives contain a second archive. Extract that one too.
