EXCERPT (2005-2010 BMW K1200, K1300 Motorcycle Service/Repair Manual): 11 00 209 Oil change, engine, with filter Preparatory work = Removing and installing the rear-wheel stand special tool (motorcycles without centre stand) (Description in item: 46 52 510, Billed as a separate item) Removing seat Core activity (+) Oil change in engine and oil tank, with filter (-) Oil change in engine and oil tank, with filter Note: Change oil, warmed to normal operating temperature. Removing tension springs for side stand Warning: Components are spring-loaded. Risk of injury caused by flying parts. Proceed with care when decreasing or increasing spring tension. Remove tension springs (1), using hook (No. 46 5 721). Disengaging complete pivot mount for side stand Remove screws (1) and remove retaining plate (2) Disengage pivot mount with gearshift lever and side stand (3) and allow the complete assembly to dangle to one side. Note the cable of the side-stand switch. Draining engine oil Draining engine oil from oil tank Place a suitable tray underneath the motorcycle to catch escaping oil. Wipe the area around the filler neck of the oil tank clean. Remove cap of oil tank (1). Squeeze hose connection (2) for oil level indicator at the plastic ring and pull the hose off. Warning: Parts of the exhaust system can be hot. Do not touch hot parts of the exhaust system. Guide the hose connection down between the frame, exhaust and swinging arm and drain the oil out of the oil tank. Reconnect hose connection (2) of the oil level indicator. Dispose of used oil in an environmentally friendly manner. Draining engine oil from engine Place a suitable tray underneath the engine to catch escaping oil. Warning: Parts of the exhaust system can be hot. Do not touch hot parts of the exhaust system. Remove oil drain plug (2) and drain the oil. Remove old sealing ring (1) from the drain plug. Dispose of used oil in an environmentally friendly manner. Install the oil drain plug with a new sealing ring. Tightening torques Oil drain plug M16 x 1.5 28 Nm Removing oil filter Place a suitable container underneath the oil filter. Remove oil filter (1), using oil filter wrench (No. 11 4 650). Dispose of the oil filter in an environmentally friendly manner. Remove all oil stains from the exhaust. Installing oil filter Coat the sealing ring for the new oil filter with engine oil. Install new oil filter (1) with oil-filter wrench (No. 11 4 650) and tighten.
